Strict ethical stock screening
ESG that actually excludes things.
Most ESG funds quietly hold Exxon, Lockheed, and Philip Morris. Lodestar applies six published methodologies — halal, strict-ESG, fossil-free, weapons-free, vegan, Catholic values — and shows you exactly where each ticker lands and why.
Six value frameworks
Each framework has its own published methodology. Halal applies AAOIFI financial ratios on top of business exclusions — the deepest rigor in the set, and proof we take "strict" seriously across every lens.
Halal / Shariah
AAOIFI-style screening: excludes non-permissible business activities (alcohol, tobacco, gambling, conventional banks/insurance, weapons, adult, pork) and requires interest-bearing debt and non-operating cash to each be below 33% of market cap.

ESG-strict
Strict secular ethical screening that actually excludes things most ESG funds quietly hold: fossil fuels, weapons, tobacco, alcohol, gambling, adult, and predatory lending. No greenwashing.
View methodology →
Fossil-free
Zero exposure to oil, gas, coal, and fossil-dominant utilities. Includes upstream E&P, midstream, refining, equipment & services, and regulated gas utilities.
View methodology →
Weapons-free
Excludes aerospace & defense contractors and firearms manufacturers. Allows civilian aerospace; classification follows the yfinance aerospace & defense industry tag.
View methodology →
Vegan
Excludes companies whose primary business involves animal products: meat, dairy, leather, fur. Packaged-foods companies are flagged broadly at the industry level — finer per-company classification is on the roadmap.
View methodology →
Catholic values
USCCB-style screening: excludes weapons, tobacco, gambling, adult, predatory lending. Broad pharmaceutical category flagged pending per-company review for abortifacients and embryonic stem-cell research (yfinance can't classify these at the company level).

Why frameworks disagree
Different value systems weight different harms. The same ticker can be compliant under one framework and excluded under another — that's not a flaw, that's the point.
XOM
Halal-compliant. ESG-strict fail.
AAOIFI says nothing about oil. We don't pretend.
